Information Technology Certification Programs

Information technology cuts across all industries and there is an ever increasing demand for experts in the this field. Schools are using more technological teaching aids, there are e-learning programs, hospitals have very advanced medical technology while the governments need to disseminate and store large volumes of data. These are just a few examples of how technology has permeated our institutions with more growth expected.
The demand for qualified personnel with information technology certification is growing by the day. Areas of specialization are also increasing and universities and colleges are constantly researching to ensure that the programs they offer remain relevant and are value adding. IT is not only about the use of existing technology but also about innovation, development and adaptation of technology to fill existing gaps.
Information technology certification programs are offered in virtually all colleges and universities. IT certifications are professional certifications in computer and related technology. They are analogous to what ACCA certification is to accountants. Due to the changes in IT, some information technology certifications need to be updated or reviewed. This is more so for certifications related to products or services offered by a certain company.
There are numerous specialty fields in IT certifications. Field of study and specialization include; data base management, information systems analysts, information systems auditing, software engineering and network administration. Most certification programs have stages where one can move from one level to a higher one gaining various skills and competencies. Very few of these programs are a one time thing.
Being at the heart of e-learning, information technology certifications are available online. There are hundreds of schools and programs available online and what is required is to ensure that the certification you get at the end of the program is acceptable in the job market. Not only online but even some on-campus programs are not relevant to today’s industry. Colleges, technical schools and universities should invest resources in research to ensure their programs are up-to-date.
Another way for colleges, schools and universities to remain relevant and offer value added IT certification programs is to establish research and development centre for staff and students. Information technology is a hands-on field and students ought to be given an opportunity to study, research and develop relevant technology in their fields of interest. This will help the universities and colleges benefit from peer sharing knowledge and the great potential held by learners. Not only will the students get a platform to practice innovation, but the college benefits from the outcome – directly or indirectly.
Information technology certifications are also suitable for those who wish to gain meaningful understanding of the field. Others who would benefit are those that are looking for a change of career. A good way to make a transition from a different line to IT would be to first get into accredited certification programs as you plan to pursue more academic programs later. Professionals such as auditors need to get training in this field in order to remain relevant in their careers.…

New Technology News: Command and Conquer Reborn

Once upon a very boring day (yes, I also experience it just like you) I was surfing the net trying to look for something good to read. Good thing that, after almost 3 hours of infinite surfing going to different links and back to home pages, I found a few interesting latest technology gadgets on a website that features cool gadgets of today. So, I decided to come up with my own idea to share new technology news to the rest of you who have not been to this website.
Our favorite RTS on HTML5 as feature on new technology news
If you were born during the 80’s and earlier, you might have spent your childhood playing early RTS (Real Time Strategy) games on our inexpensive, yet beloved consoles. Command and Conquer anyone? We still see this game on our consoles today with improved game plays, excellent displays graphic wise, and better gaming environment.
But we all do remember those days when we boasted and fought against our friends on how we destroyed the enemies camp with our own version of dirty tactics of war. Even though the first C&C was in 2D with a lousy GUI and slow paced (sometimes laggy), we all love it.
But a software and web developer in the name of Aditya Ravi Shankar brings all nostalgia on the loose as he made a clone of our once favorite RTS game to our browsers. He developed the game using HTML5 to improve his coding skills and was supposed to try simple tower defense games. But, without definite reasons he jumped straight to doing RTS games and made it special when he decided to do Command and Conquer.
He finished making the clone in a 16 hour per day work for an entire month, and not to mention a whole week of fever because of the extended work hours. Although the game is still yet to be completed with all the bugs and glitches, Shankar is getting the help that he needs from fellow players who tried the game on their own computers.
On a Facebook reply chain, one avid fan of C&C has made a neat list of different bugs and glitches that need to be worked on for Shankar. But despite of these glitches, the smart innovation of this guy has caught the interest of many people especially to old and die hard fans of Command and Conquer. We could all hope that he fixes everything and all of us can enjoy playing this game again at the convenience of our own desktops.…

PlayStation 3 – A Better Value From a Gaming Standpoint?

PlayStation 3 – A Better Value From a Gaming Standpoint?

You know, there is still a debate – some of you would say that there is no debate going on from your own point-of-view – going on about whether the PlayStation 3 is better than, worse than or equal to the Xbox 360 and/or the Nintendo Wii. This is something that we are not even going to bother getting into here as it is not the main focus. What is the main focus here is what makes the PlayStation 3 better than the others to most people.

There are so many articles out there and debates that are already raging about which of the three gaming systems are the best ones so this one will not be just another one of those. When it comes to being able to play online head-to-head against your friends without having to be concerned about adding more financial stress to what you and your family are already dealing with you can rest assured that this one is the one for you. You are able to go online and play head-to head against your friends with the PlayStation 3 easily.

Something else that makes the PlayStation 3 worth the money is the fact that there is a built-in Blu-ray drive that certainly allows you to play movies and other discs that are Blu-ray compatible. This does indeed add an element of satisfaction for those that like to have a gaming console that is indeed a multi-purpose instrument. Have you ever wanted to play online but were disappointed by the fact that there was no Internet signal where you are? This is where the Wi-Fi networking capability certainly does come in handy.

Something else that you are going to notice that is really good is the fact that you do not have to get rid of all of your PlayStation 2 games either as you are able to play them on the PlayStation 3 pretty easily. The only limitations that apply here is the fact that a few of the PS2 games will not work on the PS3 due to compatibility issues between the two generations of the gaming consoles. If you still have a PlayStation 2 console you will find out that you cannot play the games for the PlayStation 3 on it – compatibility issues here as well.

For most people it actually is a combination of everything already mentioned above that makes the PlayStation 3 the best of the lot as far as they are concerned. For others it is the fact that the games are specifically geared to adults. For yet others the draw is that you are able to compete with your friends online head-to-head easily and without paying any type of extra fees for this service. Yes, there are many other things that you are bound to be hearing that are not so flattering about the PlayStation 3 such as the fact that you will need to wait a few months for the games that you want to be available. You have to decide for yourself if this is what you really want.…

The Role Of Digital Technology In Long Distance Relationships

I was involved in a long distance relationship for about 2 years. Let’s call her Gwen. She was a cousin of my friend but grew up in the US. She was born here in Singapore but moved over when she was 5 years old.
She added me on Facebook and we talked online several times. We met up a few times when she would come back to Singapore for trips to see relatives and such.
Gwen was special. I never got along so well with a girl. It was a case of where we clicked from the first moment we started to talk. I felt no fear, no shyness and no lack of confidence. I could be me and not try to impress her. She understood and laughed at whatever lame jokes I cracked. Similarly, I found her to be a smart, funny and an attractive girl. Soon enough, I started going on Facebook 24/7 hoping to catch her online so that we could chat.
But long distance relationships are the hardest of all. I asked several friends about their experiences. A friend’s older sister, Cecilia, studied in Perth, Western Australia about 12 years ago. She said that it was difficult. Back in her day, she had email and ICQ. But it was on a 56k dial up modem so it was very, very slow. The school’s computer lab was running on IBM machines with MS-DOS software, not even Windows.
Digital cameras were around but they were beyond what a constantly broke student could afford. So her boyfriend had to develop photos the old fashioned way and send them to her via snail mail.
But now in present day, all cellphones have cameras and you can immediately take a photo and send it via “whatsapp”. Everyone has a Facebook account and a webcam is standard with every laptop. Skype lets you make phone calls for free. There are even websites like View2gether and SeeToo that let couples view photos and videos in real time.
I know of a couple that celebrated via webcam. The boyfriend bought ordered a cake and blew out the candle for his girlfriend on Skype. So in a way, technology has made long distance relationships a whole lot easier to bear.
But although there are technologies and platforms that let you stay connected, it doesn’t necessarily mean you communicate better. Cecilia mentions that since she had to be so frugal back when she was a student, she really looked forward and treasure those phone calls with her boyfriend. They were forced to communicate better. “We didn’t want to waste time arguing,” she says.
Another thing I realized that although I could see Gwen, say “hi” and hear her voice, I couldn’t reach out and touch her, give her a hug nor feel her skin on mine. I could not physically be there for her when she needed me the most. The simple things that most couples take for granted were denied to us.
Technology is not the answer. Some couples in long distance relationships are still going strong but Gwen and I have broken up. There is no substitute for the effort, patience and time that needs to be invested in a relationship to make it flourish. So far, there is no technology that can help you out on that.…

Palm Pre – Finally a Competitor to iPhone

Palm Pre – Finally a Competitor to iPhone

The Palm Pre’s launch this weekend could be a huge event this year for the gadget industry. The Smartphone with its multitasking capabilities and notifications system are superb. Pre- has a multitouch functionality with touchscreen control, slide-out keyboard, good multimedia integration and Web Services like wireless options such as 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. Palm Inc’s Smartphone is not so attractive like past Apple Inc iPhone but its launch will be seen as a life saver for Palm and exclusive provider Sprint Nextel Corp. Plenty could go wrong. Executives have warned of shortages. Scathing reviews could smother not just Palm’s hopes, but also Sprint’s. And investors might have to wait a long time for the device to boost Palm’s financial.

Although Pre appears to be better than iPhone, it has some draw backs. The keyboard is cramped, the battery life is short, it lacks expansion slot, video recording and flash support. But with all these missing features and making it less appropriate for professionals, the Palm- Pre offers gadget lovers and consumers excellent features and multitasking capabilities The hardware could be better, but more importantly, Palm has developed a solid OS that not only rivals the competition but also sets a new standard in the way Smart phone handle tasks and manage information. The Palm Pre’s design is unlike that of any Smart phone we’ve seen to date, but if we had to give a point of comparison, we’d say it somewhat resembles the HCT touch. It’s a bit like a pebble, with its smooth, black, lacquered finish and rounded edges, and, like the iPhone, Palm keeps it simple by keeping external controls to a minimum.

The face of the device only has one control: a centre button that will take you back to the Deck of Card view. The centre key is a bit deceiving in that it looks similar to a trackball navigator, so there were times where, out of habit, we would try to navigate a page by trying to scroll up and down using the centre button, but you can only press it like a key. On top of the unit, there’s a power button, a silent ringer switch, and a 3.5 millimetre headphone jack, which we’re always happy to see. The left side features a volume rocker, while the microUSB port is on the right. Finally, on back, you’ll find the camera, flash, speaker, and removable battery. The Pre,s display is one of the main highlights of the phone, measuring 3.1 inches diagonally, so it’s smaller than the iPhone. The tiny keyboard isn’t going to draw any praise, nor is the lack of an expansion slot. The lack of a physical keyboard was a big reason why some people chose not to buy the iPhone . However, It can definitely see people with larger thumbs having problems and, unfortunately, there’s no onscreen keyboard option at this point.

The phone memory is about7GB, so the contact list is limited and includes fields for multiple number and email ids. With Palm’s Synergy feature, the Pre can pull a contact’s information from various sources–Facebook, Outlook, Gmail, and automatically fill all the fields in a single contact sheet, so you don’t have to manually enter all the data. In addition to numbers and e-mail addresses, Synergy will also attach any photos that are associated with that person’s Facebook or e-mail account.

So the absolute gadget freak should have it immediately!…
