Blogging tools combine all the basic functions of a simple CMS: content creation, content management, and content delivery are processed through a blogging tool. Market Technology: The Missing Link

Although many, aspects of Industry have morphed and changed over the last, few decades, there are several outposts that continue to find their way. In spite of technological advances, process improvements, changing Market and Customer demands, fierce Competition and even the advent of the Internet and powerful, Marketing platforms – like LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter – the prevailing mindset has not changed dramatically.
In 1981, we submitted a manuscript to Harvard Business School for review and consideration. It was titled, “Market Technology: The Missing Link.”
It certainly would not rival Ted Leavitt’s “Marketing Myopia,” however Market Technology approached the fundamental issue differently and distinctively.
The actual manuscript was a “library of congress” class of document complete with concept overview, relevant models, heavy detailed, descriptors, case examples to demonstrate that the stuff had been applied to the real world, etc.
In its raw form – Market Technology advocated that companies must treat their marketing, sales and business development needs similarly to the way core engineering and product development are handled. Determining the right response and the right mix for a company’s marketing and sales programs is no different than determining a company’s products and services. In fact, conceiving effective programs is as complex and critical to the company’s success, as conceiving its product set. This meant that the Marketing discipline and process need to be integrated into the business. In fact, with small-to-medium, sized companies – the Market Program – is classified, as critical – in that, it could make or break a company.
For smaller firms – they must get it right – out-of-the-gate, and may not get a second chance.
This is one aspect that distinguishes smaller companies from their larger counterparts – as the larger firm can absorb a missed opportunity or loss more readily.
How many companies have you been associated with that thought and operated this way?
Market Technology represents a Mindset, framework, methodology, process orientation and an implementation -ready, program all rolled-up in one, complete package.
In your company, what role does Marketing play?
Most, will respond by indicating that Marketing plays a support role for either the product/service or to provide mainline support to the company’s Salesforce or Distribution Network (Channel Partners).
Reference will be made to Trade Show support, MarComm, collateral material, brochures, data sheets and even the dreaded “lead generation program.”
In your company, what is the stature of Marketing?
There are exceptions (depending on the Industry and Company make-up), however most will indicate that it is not a Leadership role (although the Marketing Team wants it to be).
What is the missing ingredient?
Is it that Senior Management did not come from the Marketing discipline and will not give it its day and cut it loose?
Is it that companies have experienced too, many false starts with their Marketing Program or it just doesn’t work?
Is marketing too, risky and costly compared to making investment in other areas of the company?
Is marketing viewed, as a luxury vs. a mainline contributor?
There is no silver bullet answer, although some combination of these factors may be the root to understand the dynamics going on here – in your company.
Let’s revisit the elements of the All-in-One package referenced above:
*The Mindset – we continually get bombarded with messages that advocate a company must migrate to a Market-Driven or Customer-Centric state – well, how many successful transitions have you been involved in or led?
The point is that this involves cultural and many times, organizational change – and that is not a small step, but a giant leap. It may demand shift changes in focus and direction, which may also have an impact on the make-up of the Senior Leadership Team.
It takes careful assessment, planning, timing and relentless dedication to pull something like this off, however the starting point is the Mindset. If there is need to infuse or change the company mindset to embrace Marketing – then it must start with the Top Dogs (Senior Leadership Team) and then filter into the organization. Although the mindset sounds like “soft science,” if the company environment is not ripe and receptive and the mindset is not understood and put to practice, then there is no need to invest any time, resource and effort into driving this forward. It’s a Dead stop!
*Framework/Methodology – most companies’ Marketing efforts look-like a disjointed, puzzle. The pieces are laid out and some fit, however it just doesn’t hang together. The reason for this is that the make-up of the Marketing Program is comprised of discrete events (activity-based) vs. a well-thought out, integrated Program (defined and driven by Strategic intent). New Technology News: Command and Conquer Reborn

Once upon a very boring day (yes, I also experience it just like you) I was surfing the net trying to look for something good to read. Good thing that, after almost 3 hours of infinite surfing going to different links and back to home pages, I found a few interesting latest technology gadgets on a website that features cool gadgets of today. So, I decided to come up with my own idea to share new technology news to the rest of you who have not been to this website.
Our favorite RTS on HTML5 as feature on new technology news
If you were born during the 80’s and earlier, you might have spent your childhood playing early RTS (Real Time Strategy) games on our inexpensive, yet beloved consoles. Command and Conquer anyone? We still see this game on our consoles today with improved game plays, excellent displays graphic wise, and better gaming environment.
But we all do remember those days when we boasted and fought against our friends on how we destroyed the enemies camp with our own version of dirty tactics of war. Even though the first C&C was in 2D with a lousy GUI and slow paced (sometimes laggy), we all love it.
But a software and web developer in the name of Aditya Ravi Shankar brings all nostalgia on the loose as he made a clone of our once favorite RTS game to our browsers. He developed the game using HTML5 to improve his coding skills and was supposed to try simple tower defense games. But, without definite reasons he jumped straight to doing RTS games and made it special when he decided to do Command and Conquer.
He finished making the clone in a 16 hour per day work for an entire month, and not to mention a whole week of fever because of the extended work hours. Although the game is still yet to be completed with all the bugs and glitches, Shankar is getting the help that he needs from fellow players who tried the game on their own computers.
On a Facebook reply chain, one avid fan of C&C has made a neat list of different bugs and glitches that need to be worked on for Shankar. But despite of these glitches, the smart innovation of this guy has caught the interest of many people especially to old and die hard fans of Command and Conquer. We could all hope that he fixes everything and all of us can enjoy playing this game again at the convenience of our own desktops.…

The Role Of Digital Technology In Long Distance Relationships

I was involved in a long distance relationship for about 2 years. Let’s call her Gwen. She was a cousin of my friend but grew up in the US. She was born here in Singapore but moved over when she was 5 years old.
She added me on Facebook and we talked online several times. We met up a few times when she would come back to Singapore for trips to see relatives and such.
Gwen was special. I never got along so well with a girl. It was a case of where we clicked from the first moment we started to talk. I felt no fear, no shyness and no lack of confidence. I could be me and not try to impress her. She understood and laughed at whatever lame jokes I cracked. Similarly, I found her to be a smart, funny and an attractive girl. Soon enough, I started going on Facebook 24/7 hoping to catch her online so that we could chat.
But long distance relationships are the hardest of all. I asked several friends about their experiences. A friend’s older sister, Cecilia, studied in Perth, Western Australia about 12 years ago. She said that it was difficult. Back in her day, she had email and ICQ. But it was on a 56k dial up modem so it was very, very slow. The school’s computer lab was running on IBM machines with MS-DOS software, not even Windows.
Digital cameras were around but they were beyond what a constantly broke student could afford. So her boyfriend had to develop photos the old fashioned way and send them to her via snail mail.
But now in present day, all cellphones have cameras and you can immediately take a photo and send it via “whatsapp”. Everyone has a Facebook account and a webcam is standard with every laptop. Skype lets you make phone calls for free. There are even websites like View2gether and SeeToo that let couples view photos and videos in real time.
I know of a couple that celebrated via webcam. The boyfriend bought ordered a cake and blew out the candle for his girlfriend on Skype. So in a way, technology has made long distance relationships a whole lot easier to bear.
But although there are technologies and platforms that let you stay connected, it doesn’t necessarily mean you communicate better. Cecilia mentions that since she had to be so frugal back when she was a student, she really looked forward and treasure those phone calls with her boyfriend. They were forced to communicate better. “We didn’t want to waste time arguing,” she says.
Another thing I realized that although I could see Gwen, say “hi” and hear her voice, I couldn’t reach out and touch her, give her a hug nor feel her skin on mine. I could not physically be there for her when she needed me the most. The simple things that most couples take for granted were denied to us.
Technology is not the answer. Some couples in long distance relationships are still going strong but Gwen and I have broken up. There is no substitute for the effort, patience and time that needs to be invested in a relationship to make it flourish. So far, there is no technology that can help you out on that.…

Do What You Do Best – Realistic Technology Tips For Paralegals

You may have heard so much about e-discovery in the last few years that if you see another article, webinar or seminar you might burst. You may feel overwhelmed with technology and that it’s moving faster than the speed of light. You may be frustrated with those you work with, because they expect you to be educated on the latest and greatest technology tools, but when it’s time for their document review, you’re told to make multiple copies or print all the documents out!
The reality is that paralegals are expected to find a unique balance for each case, each legal team and each client. Paralegals have always been required to be flexible, creative and able to juggle many different projects. However, those traits are becoming more challenging as the management of cases becomes more complex. Here are some tips to consider while managing the balancing act as we survive the evolving practice of law.
Understand your role and gather the resources you need to do your job
Paralegals work in different environments. Some have a litigation support professional available to assist them with the complexities of managing electronic data; others are expected to add those responsibilities onto their existing job description; and there are those who are somewhere in between. Wherever you are on the spectrum, you should make certain that you understand the expectations placed upon you and that those you work with understand your capabilities. Your job responsibilities are varied and learning new technologies is an added expectation. Have you been relieved of other tasks with the advances of technology? Likely not! It’s okay to be an excellent paralegal and have a skill set whereby you add value and efficiencies to the management of the case, yet not necessarily be the technical processing guru. As a matter of fact, it may be that a paralegal who doesn’t have the expertise to internally electronically process productions ends up spending more time doing so – and therefore costing the client more money than if they work with an specialist who does have the expertise. Paralegals need to have a solid understanding of the capabilities of technology, but don’t need to be the expert who performs each task. If it’s more efficient to delegate these tasks in the best interest of the client because it will lower cost and time involved, then it’s your role to recognize that and surround yourself with the appropriate resources. Knowing the appropriate resources is important. Technology is becoming so complex, that specialists are evolving in all its different aspects. You may be someone who is an expert in all areas of technology, but if you’re not, stop beating yourself up. Highly qualified paralegals can manage their cases and the electronic component of them equally effectively if they understand their role and surround themselves with the appropriate resources. A simple cost benefit analysis is a good tool to help determine the best approach to a task.
Reality Check – we are not a completely paperless society
Despite the daily blogs and articles about electronic discovery, there is still paper in our world and in the world of our clients. Discovery, in the majority of cases, will include both. Paralegals need to help the legal team with the best management solution. Logic tells us that having our entire discovery in one place, despite its original form, is the most effective. Early on, this was done backwards. Electronic data was received and printed out. It did not take long to realize that it’s more efficient to scan to image the paper and keep the electronic data in native form, then load all of it into a litigation support database. Managing litigation documents in litigation support databases is becoming a requirement with most cases today. Paralegals need to understand the processes and have the ability to work with the legal team to ensure that these databases are established for the efficient review and management of discovery. The initial set up of a database and proper collection of documents is the most important component in a productive litigation support database. Data collections that do not capture important information at the outset will be less useful and can leave a negative feeling with those forced to work with it. Likewise, knowing when it’s appropriate to print out of the database is equally important. For example, printing deposition exhibits is appropriate. Printing boxes and boxes of documents to put in chronological order for attorney review – probably not. This leads to the next tip.
Be an advocate
You don’t have to be the expert on how everything is electronically processed, but having a solid understanding of the capabilities of technology and the ability to communicate with the legal team and clients will add value and efficiencies to your role. It’s frustrating …

This technology works by utilizing a webcam that locks on to a spectator’s eyes and adapts the images sent by using a webcam that locks on to a viewers eyes and adjusts the images transmitted from the display as the spectator shifts his head so they see in 3D. This is much like the headset used in movies like “Virtual Reality”. When the spectator moves, the image moves too, tricking the brain that there is dimension behind the screen.
The Three Dimensional TV Box
This is a new discovery in 3D TV without glasses technology. This operates by taking an average three-dimensional image and sending it into the 3D TV Box to be displayed. The 3D TV Box takes the image and projects it on to the TV monitor at the same dimension you see when using 3D glasses on most 3D sets, and can take subject the various services that have streaming 3D content solutions.
