PS3 Red Light Flashing – How to Repair the PS3 Red Flashing Light

PS3 Red Light Flashing – How to Repair the PS3 Red Flashing Light

Are you having the ps3 red light flashing problem? Is your console refusing to boot? Did it give three beeps before the light began flashing? If any of these happened, then you can be sure that you have the infamous and dreaded ps3 red light of death. Fixing this is not just a straight jacketed thing. This is because there are many causes. Here are a few repair tips to help you fix it.

1. Cool the Console Down

Sometimes, this problem is caused by the heat generated by it. The PS3 console is built in such a manner that heat doesn’t readily escape leading to excessive heating which may also affect other integral parts of the console like the HDD and the board.

So, cool the console down by either directing a fan towards the vents or placing it directly in front of the AC. If you have any other cooling device too, it will work.

2. Turn off the High Definition

I know this is a bummer and that it affects the viewing quality, but the truth is that the high def often generates more heat. But this is the way Sony built the console and heat is an essential part of its functions.

3. Avoid the Corners

Avoid placing the console in any corner or place where there is no proper ventilation, the reflected heat from these places tend to increase the temperature of the console resulting in more heat which of course tends to result in the ps3’s red light flashing and the console shutting down.…

Console Gaming, Then and Now

Console Gaming, Then and Now

We all remember pong, in fact, it’s still around. Cell phones, MP3 players, retro game reinventions still bring us Pong and many of the other classic games we know and love. Console games two decades ago(about when I was born) were very primitive. People often used number pads to enter in commands, those commands would then translate to an action on a screen. Some consoles were actually housed in wood, not plastic. It wasn’t until Nintendo released the NES that the market really exploded.

Nintendo had achieved something that the competition had not. The NES(Nintendo Entertainment System) was sleek, clean and it featured cartridges(games) that could be bought and inserted into the system to play. Many, many games were made for the NES and it was on top of the world for the time.

Nintendo later announced the Super NES, which had taken advantage of the newest technology at the time. This was the tipping point where 2-D smoothed into 3-D. The N64 was the next step, Sony was close behind with the Playstation. The N64 was still using cartridges while the PlayStation used discs. This turned a lot of game publishers away from the N64 because it meant developing for 2 different technologies.

This Brings us up to the year 2000. You have 3 major competitors; Sony’s PlayStation 2, Microsoft’s Xbox and Nintendo’s Gamecube. All have 3-D graphics and immersible gameplay but the Xbox and PlayStation 2 appealed to more hardcore gamers while the Nintendo kept a fun casual gamer environment. The Xbox and PlayStation 2 did something that the Gamecube did not, online multiplayer. For the first time, gamers would be able to use the Internet to play with each other. This took video games to a whole new level.

With today’s consoles hot on the market(Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii) it is only a matter of time before we see another big breakthrough from console games. There are technologies in the works that will hopefully have gamers moving and controlling game characters in a life-like manner. If the last decade in changes are any indication of the changes to come, then we have a lot to look forward to.…

Sony’s Big E3 Announcements For 2009

Sony’s Big E3 Announcements For 2009

Various rumours gained increasing momentum during the build up to the E3 technology show in early June. Perhaps the most persistent rumour was that of a PlayStation 3 price cut and a new PSP handheld gaming device. The PS3 price reduction didn’t happen, although the new PSP did. We the take a look at Sony’s major E3 announcements.

Perhaps the biggest announcement was the first one. Sony unveiled a new PSP handheld console called the PSP Go. The main feature of the device is a moveable screen which slides open to revel the controls which appear to be much improved from the previous generation PSP with a more PS3 like layout including the introduction of an analogue stick. This new sliding screen allows the device to be a claimed 50% smaller and around 40% lighter than the original PSP. In what could be considered an admission of defeat, the UMD (Universal Media Disc) drive has been discontinued, a move which will surely see the disappearance of this little-loved proprietary format. In its place is a memory stick card slot (using the M2 format) along with 16GB of internal memory. Built in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth communication technologies also feature. The PSP Go will hit the shops in October 2009 for $249.99.

The second big announcement from Sony was a motion controller for the PS3 games console. The control system works in conjunction with the PlayStation Eye motion-sensing webcam which tracks the motion of the player around the room. The demo showed the player replicated on the screen, usually with some sort of weapon being held in their hand such as a light sabre or a sword. The technology is clearly a play on Nintendo’s Wii motion control system and looks to take the original Wii controller a stage further by using full body movement. It is interesting to note that Microsoft also launched a similar system at E3, although it has to be said that the Sony system looked a lot closer to making production than the Microsoft system.

These represented the two major announcements at the show. Other news surrounded new and upcoming games. Some notable highlights were a live demo run of Uncharted 2, a live demo of the war game M.A.G showing a staggering 256 live network players playing in real time through the internet. Some new games were also announced including a PS3 exclusive by Rockstar (developers of GTA4) called Agent and based in the 1970’s. A new game from the Metal Gear Solid stable called Peace Walker was also announced, along with a little trailer to accompany it. The game is due in 2010.

That concludes our brief look at Sony’s E3 2009 announcement.…

PlayStation 2 Video Games – A Closer Look

PlayStation 2 Video Games – A Closer Look

PlayStation 2 video games were the bees-knees back before the arrival of the PlayStation 3 and the competitive Xbox 360. Now they’re a much underrated relic of gaming history, and are put aside for the much more expensive PS3 and Xbox360 games. But who needs the extra graphics? Who needs the modern gaming? Anyone who knew the joy of PlayStation 2 in its day will easily play PS2 games and have just as much fun as on any newer console. So let us look at some of the best PS2 games, so that we can buy them at ridiculously cheap prices and smite the modern game developers.

The Final Fantasy games are eternal, evergreen, cult following games, and anyone who became hooked on them at their birth, or even later on the newer consoles, will no doubt still enjoy them just as much on a PlayStation 2. The last proper installment on PS2 was Final Fantasy XII. It was a huge advancement in graphics and playability, with nearly endless amounts of game-play time, and can be picked up for a meager price compared to the game time offered.

If you’re a soccer fan, you will know that the game rules do not change all that often. And, not surprisingly, neither do the console versions of the game. The graphics can only go so far when rendering a field from above, and the controls are generally kept as they are. So, although new games are released every year, you would be better off simply sticking to a good old PlayStation 2 version. What’s the difference?

But if these games don’t grab your attention, look out for some of the other PS2 classics. There’s Jak 3, for quirky, challenging and other worldly missions; Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, for a comprehensive experience of the Metal Gear experience; Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, that classic open world, sadistic game-play crammed with hundreds of missions in the unique and hilarious San Andreas environment; and, lastly, Burnout 3, for high-octane, unreal, speed-crazed fun that lasts all the way up until the caffeine in your system wears off.

To find PlayStation 2 video games you would be best off looking them up on Amazon, but, if you’re eager to score a good deal, try bidding on Ebay, as there are tones of people looking to sell some of their old games and consoles. So, if you want a cheap, fun gaming experience, look no further than PlayStation 2 games.…

PS3 Game Review – Mega Man 10

PS3 Game Review – Mega Man 10

When Capcom released Mega Man 9 in 2008, it immediately became clear that there was a real market in making games like it’s 1989. The combination of gamer nostalgia, tight gameplay, and hardcore challenge got great reviews and sales on the downloadable console game market. But now the last of those elements, the challenging gameplay, can be adjusted in Capcom’s second bite at the apple, Mega Man 10. This game introduces “Easy Mode,” a typical choice in most video games, but one that the long-running Mega Man series has actually never seen before. With most other features remaining very similar to 9, the most important consideration here is whether you think Easy Mode adds to the game, or perhaps hinders it.

Easy Mode makes hits to your character less damaging, hits to enemies more damaging, takes out some enemies here and there, and, perhaps most helpfully, puts new platforms down to prevent most falling deaths. These changes make a giant difference, and at least guarantee that you’ll live to see the end of the game this time with only a little work. It certainly expands the audience for the game, as surely many confronted Mega Man 9 two years ago only to die at the ends of Jewel Man one too many times and quit. Those same gamers can have an experience more on level with the difficulties of most games today, and breeze through the title.

Technically, the addition of an Easy Mode can’t hinder the experience, because the gamer can simply choose to play on the normal difficulty if they wish. However, the fact remains that some players will cruise through the Easy Mode in a little over an hour, and fail to see what’s so special about the Mega Man series. The fun comes in conquering the really tough challenges, in mastering each level layout one by one. When you’re not simply compelled to overcome these hard circumstances to see the rest of the game, players become less likely to willingly go through it. More players can beat the game, but it’s possible that less will actually be having fun.

Mega Man 10 also adds in a challenge mode with dozens of shorter challenges for the player to complete. Some are simply boss fights from the main game, but most are like very short levels that focus on one specific skill, like perfect jumping, or destroying a specific type of enemy. This feature would be perfect, if it weren’t so tedious to retry a challenge. After you fail, the game spits you back out to the challenge menu, rather than simply including a “retry” button, which wastes a frustrating amount of time in-between each session.

Proto Man, before a paid DLC component, is included in Mega Man 10 from the get-go, giving a slightly different experience one can try. He is hurt more by each enemy blast, but he has a shield that protects him from many hits to compensate. That small difference, along with a sliding ability and the appearance change, are all the variety you get, but it’s still certainly a welcome addition.

Mega Man 10 doesn’t try to add too much to what made its predecessor successful, which is just fine. The gameplay is still pitch-perfect, and the additions all add up to make it a more solid product for a wider range of gamers.…

The software works by decrypting the encryption code on the game’s disc and this will act as a copy protector and will also prevent privacy.
